Where the numbers on this site come from
Comparability is worth more than any single number being the most current.
The single-source principle
All four catalogue metrics — slope length, lift count, elevation range and the vertical drop derived from them — come from a single source, measured by skiresort.com's own method.
That is a deliberate constraint. Other sources carry higher or lower values for individual resorts; we do not mix them in. A comparison table with mixed sources looks full and is wrong.
The cost: a resort's own site may show a more current figure than this one. The gain: twenty resorts that can genuinely be placed side by side.
How we tested the source
The risk of a single source is that the source is wrong. To test it, we compared two catalogue entries against independent official sources.
Erciyes's elevation range (2,088–3,346 m) matched exactly the values derived from the operator's own lift table. Kartepe's 21.2 km of slopes and 1,300–1,699 m range were independently consistent too.
Two resorts is a small sample but a meaningful one: we found no sign that the source systematically inflates or understates. Cross-checked entries are marked with a ✓ on resort pages.
The method differences we found
The same cross-check also explained why two sources give different numbers, and that turned out to be one of this site's more useful outputs.
Lift count: the official Erciyes source says 19 installations, the catalogue says 14. The gap is five magic carpets; the catalogue counts only named mechanical lines.
Slope length: Turkish sources commonly publish roughly double the catalogue figure. That may come from counting runs in both directions or from a propagated error; we could not verify the cause, so we state it as an observation rather than a claim.
Live weather data
Current temperature, wind and estimated snow depth on resort pages come from the Open-Meteo weather model (CC BY 4.0), fetched server-side; visitor IPs never reach the provider.
Each resort is queried from its OWN coordinates with its OWN top elevation supplied. The query runs only on the resort page; the directory shows no live data.
This is a MODEL output. Snow depth is not a measurement on the piste and cannot see snowmaking. When data cannot be fetched, no stale value is shown.
Live weather is not a metric for comparing resorts: snow falling at one today does not make it better than another. That is why it never appears in comparison tables.
Data we do not publish
Piste counts. Counting depends on definitions and differs between resorts, so it is not comparable; we use length and vertical drop.
Prices and season dates. Both change within a season and cannot be sourced consistently.
Live piste status. There is no verifiable single source across twenty resorts, and an incomplete table can send someone hundreds of kilometres for nothing.
Distances and travel times. They vary so much with traffic, season and route that a single figure would mislead; we give the region, not the kilometres.
Estimates for the five resorts whose lift count is unknown. Those cells show a dash, and those resorts are excluded from lift-based rankings.
